Buc-ee's to Open Its First North Carolina Location by May 2027
MEBANE, N.C. — Excitement is building as Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas-based travel center chain known for its clean bathrooms and extensive snack selection, prepares to open its first store in North Carolina by May 2027. The new location will be situated on a sprawling 32-acre site off Interstate 40/85 in Alamance County, specifically at 1425 Trollingwood-Hawfields Road.
Construction for this highly anticipated travel center commenced in late 2025, and by mid-2026, onlookers can expect to see the walls of this impressive facility taking shape. Buc-ee’s travel centers typically require between 12 to 18 months for completion, and this one promises to be no exception. Upon its opening, the Mebane Buc-ee’s will boast a massive 74,000-square-foot building, standing at approximately 39 feet tall—equivalent to a three-story structure.
In addition to its size, the new Buc-ee’s will significantly enhance the local economy by creating around 200 full-time jobs. Positions will start at $18 per hour for roles such as cashiers, bathroom attendants, and warehouse staff, with food service workers earning $21 per hour, all accompanied by benefits. This influx of employment opportunities is expected to positively impact the community, providing much-needed jobs in the area.
The travel center will feature an array of amenities designed to serve travelers and locals alike. Visitors can look forward to 650 parking spaces, including designated areas for buses and recreational vehicles, and an impressive 120 gas pumps spread across 60 fueling stations. The site will also include electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to accommodate the growing number of electric cars on the road. Additionally, an interactive kiosk will provide information about other attractions in Mebane, making it a valuable resource for both newcomers and residents.
As construction progresses, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is also working on improvements to the surrounding infrastructure. A second bridge is being installed over the interstate, which will facilitate a diverging diamond traffic pattern, capable of handling thousands more vehicles each day. Officials assure that this construction will not hinder traffic flow on this busy commuter route.
The arrival of Buc-ee’s in North Carolina marks a significant milestone for the chain, which has become a beloved destination for travelers in Texas and beyond. With its unique offerings, commitment to cleanliness, and a wide selection of food and merchandise, Buc-ee’s is set to become a favorite stop for those traveling through Mebane and the surrounding areas. As the opening date approaches, anticipation continues to grow for what promises to be a game-changing addition to North Carolina’s travel landscape.
