Reba McEntire Sets the Record Straight on Her Engagement to Rex Linn

In a recent interview on the Today show, country music icon Reba McEntire took a moment to clarify her relationship status with fiancé Rex Linn, ensuring fans understand that they are not married yet. This light-hearted yet important correction came during a conversation with co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, who mistakenly referred to Linn as McEntire’s “husband.”

As McEntire discussed her role in the second season of her sitcom Happy’s Place, which features Linn, Guthrie made the slip. The Grammy-winning artist quickly interjected, humorously pointing out the error. “Well, now wait a minute,” she said, as the cameras revealed Linn in the studio. “Before everybody has a conniption fit at home — we’re just engaged.”

Guthrie promptly apologized for the mix-up, acknowledging the clarification. McEntire explained her need to set the record straight, saying, “my family will go, ‘Wait, you didn’t tell us!?’” This playful exchange highlighted the couple’s close-knit relationship and the importance of communication, even in public settings.

The couple got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2024 after four years of dating. McEntire shared that while they are excited about their engagement, they are not in a rush to plan a wedding. “We’re totally enjoying being engaged,” she told PEOPLE last month, adding that work takes priority for now. “Have no idea when we’re going to set a date. Work comes first, so we’ll see.”

In the same interview, McEntire expressed her joy about working alongside Linn on Happy’s Place. She playfully noted their different work habits, with Linn being a “workaholic” who enjoys rehearsing, while she prefers a more laid-back approach. “He really makes sure that I know my lines, that I’m ready to go when we have to have tape day,” she quipped, emphasizing the fun they have together both on and off the set.

As they navigate this exciting phase of their relationship, McEntire and Linn are focused on enjoying their time together. “We’re in the fun [phase]. We love each other, respect each other, love to hang out,” she said. “We’re best friends. It’s perfect. I’m really grateful God kept him for the last.”

Fans of McEntire can look forward to more of her charm and talent on Happy’s Place, while also celebrating her loving relationship with Linn, which continues to blossom.
